Why yoga isn't useful for most athletes

One of my most controversial articles, particularly to those who didn't read it. The article argues that yoga is not ideal for most performance athletes. Key points include:

  • Yoga can benefit athletes with good mobility but may cause compensatory movements in those with mobility restrictions.

  • It emphasizes that yoga is not a conditioning exercise unless the sport requires yoga-like movements (e.g., martial arts, gymnastics).

  • The focus of yoga should be on breathing and movement control, but athletes should avoid forcing unsustainable positions.
