SFMA Level 2
@ West Adelaide Football Club
57 Milner Road
Richmond, SA 5033
April 1 08:00 to 5pm
April 2 08:00 to 5pm
Course Prerequisite: Before attending the SFMA Level 2, you must have previously attended the SFMA Level 1 course.
In the Level 2 SFMA seminar, you will spend two full days focused on continuing the diagnostic process and interventions designed to compliment the SFMA findings. The majority of the course will be dedicated to the demonstration and application of the 4 x 4 exercise matrix and the neurodevelopmental progression it follows. Key motor control oriented exercise progressions are provided for each top tier movement pattern assessed within the SFMA.
You will leave with a clearer understanding of treatment for Stability and/or Motor Control dysfunctions. Additionally, reset and reinforcement ideas will be discussed to allow the participant to gain a greater understanding of the clinical application of the model.
As an FMS Approved Provider, the only provider for SFMA courses in Australia and New Zealand, we are approved to take your registration for this event, as a pre-registration. This means that we are taking registrations to confirm we have minimum numbers for the event before we submit your details to SFMA Headquarters for enrolment in the course officially. We are approved to do this.
The SFMA Level 2 Online Course will be provided as a resource prior to attending the event but only once the course is confirmed as having enough attendees to proceed. Please note: SFMA Level 2 Online does NOT automatically become available at the time of course registration. Once minimum numbers are met, you will be notified, then you will be enrolled with Functional Movement Systems. Then, it is strongly recommended to view the Introduction to Mobility and Motor Learning sections prior to your event. Viewing the Virtual Course Sections in the Online Course is not required. All content will be covered in the live event. It can be utilized as a resource post-course. Once the course is confirmed and you are enrolled with Functional Movement Systems, the cost (AUD$1600) is nonrefundable.
In the unlikely event that minimum numbers are not met, the course will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund.
SFMA Level 2
Now that you identified the problem, let's talk about solutions.
This course teaches healthcare professionals how to use the SFMA findings to guide their interventions - from mobility to retraining motor control dysfunctions.
What is SFMA Level 2?
The SFMA Level 2 provides a systematic approach to efficiently addressing both mobility and stability/motor control dysfunctions. It picks up where the Level 1 left off!
The Level 2 Course emphasizes our 3 R's approach - Reset, Reinforce, and Retraining - to restore proper movement. With your SFMA findings, you can prioritize where to start your treatment plan and what the intervention is.
To provide the best Reset, you need to know exactly what's restricting the movement. The Level 2 continues the diagnostic process for mobility dysfunctions with the local biomechanical examination. Our diagnostic algorithm systematically uncovers if there is a joint restriction or a tissue restriction so you can be efficient and apply the most appropriate Reset and then Reinforcement.
How do we change the stability/motor control dysfunctions we identified with the SFMA?
Infants develop movement in patterns, not individual muscles. They learn to control movements before they progress to a more challenging posture. Using the neurodevelopmental perspective – how we learned to move as infants – we have developed a model to guide motor control programming to mimic what we learned in our early years. The Level 2 course provides Retraining philosophy and examples for all the SFMA patterns.
When you leave this course, you will be equipped with tools to tackle whatever your patient presents with - mobility or motor control dysfunctions. The primary focus of Level 2 is to reinforce the local biomechanical examination process, but also to empower participants with confidence to successfully integrate motor control techniques into their clinical practice.
Who should take the level 2 SFMA course?
Anyone who has taken the SFMA Level 1 is welcome to attend.
